DED-Ajman Organizes Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights

In cooperation with Ajman Free Zone, Department of Economic Development in Ajman (DED-Ajman) organized a workshop for raising investors’ awareness of intellectual property rights. The workshop targeted a number of facilities throughout markets of free zones in Ajman. It comprised an introduction to intellectual property rights and the laws regulating them in addition to the procedures arising from breaches of such laws. The services offered by government agencies with a view to protecting economic facilities and all parties related therewith were also highlighted.

Abdullah Bin Nasser Al Nuaimi, Director of DED-Ajman’s Directorate of Control and Consumer Protection said: “This workshop comes in alignment with continuing efforts made by DED-Ajman to enhance investors’ legal awareness. It also translates the strategic partnership with Ajman Free Zone, and reflects mutual keenness on coordination of efforts aimed at implementing the best standards with respect to protection of trademarks and consumers throughout the Emirate. The Directorate of Control and Consumer Protection regularly organizes awareness and inspection campaigns for reinforcing trust and elevating levels of awareness and commitment in different economic facilities.”

During the workshop, economic, economic facilities were educated about the concept of intellectual property and the risks presented by negative commercial practices such as sale of counterfeited goods which causes harm to all relevant parties and adversely impacts the market. DED-Ajman is keen on combating such practices by involving stakeholders. It allows dealers, holders of trademarks and consumers to file complaints against commercial fraud through a number of channels including Ajman Government Contact Center at 80070 and through the smart service via email and DED-Ajman’s smart application.
