In line with the vision of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to establish the leading position of the country in innovation; the Department of Economic Development-Ajman (DED-Ajman) participated in Emirate events as part of the government entities celebration in the innovation month. The events started at Ajman Marina on February 8 and concluded on February 14. The events were organized by the Ajman Excellence Program, with the participation of different government entities, academic institutions and private sector companies in the Emirate. The aim of the program is to celebrate innovators, promote a culture of innovation for all, improve the experiences of customers and enhance the happiness of the society.

H.E. Ali Issa Al Nuaimi, Director General, DED-Ajman, said: “Our participation in the UAE Innovation Month comes as part of our keenness to enhance the culture of innovation at work and contribute to the development of a generation of innovators who are capable of making a positive change in the human life and his future. The month of innovation is a model of integration and synergy between the government and the community. It contributes to the creation of an interaction between entities and individuals to support the country’s excellence and innovation.”

Throughout its participation, the Department has showcased several important innovations. Fatima Mohamed Al Shamsi, Director of Strategy and Corporate Excellence said: “We have showcased the efforts of DED-Ajman to progress innovation in the emirate. We also explained the innovative projects of the organization, including “DED Eye”, which aims to involve consumers in the control of economic establishments by monitoring and reporting any violations or irregularities through an intelligent application. This innovative service contributes to the protection of consumer rights.”

She added: “Another project showcased was Smart Inspection. This will enable the inspectors to identify the licenses issued in the emirate and their classification, date of issuance and renewal. It also offers features like providing all the information about the last visit to the facility and the observations and violations that have been made. The system will contribute to reducing the effort and time spent in the inspections in order to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the inspections made to the economic establishments.”

DED-Ajman has also coordinated with Al Zawra'a Girls School and hosted students that showcased their innovations aimed at community service. Among the most prominent of these innovations is the Robot project, which serves the people of determination. The project surveys’ the environment surrounding blind people and can issue verbal signals, warnings and alert them to obstacles. This innovative Robot can be developed to include all categories that people of determination require. The students showcased the Solar Cell project; which works to rationalize the consumption of electricity in lighting the roads through a vehicle traffic sensor. A sensor for the water level in the soil was also introduced; a multi-use device where the first use is implanting the sensor under the soil and installing the display screen above. The screen contains three levels, each one has been installed a certain lighting to illuminate when the level of water is sensing under the ground. The sensor helps the user know the extent of agricultural soil need for irrigation. It also can be used to determine the level of water inside the tank and pump the quantity of water needed to fill the tank.

The visit of Al Zawra'a Girls School students comes as part of DED-Ajman’s commitment to enhance its social role. The visit aims to provide an interactive platform during the events of innovation month. The visit encourages and supports a new generation of innovators and motivates young people to keep up with the leadership's directives to achieve innovations that serve the community.
