Department of Economic Development – Ajman
about

The boom of Ajman’s now well established and highly competitive economy began with the Department of Economic Development (DED), a division of the Municipality and Planning Department, before it became an independent local authority in 2011. During that year, H.H. Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, the Ruler of the Emirate of Ajman and a Member of the UAE Supreme Council, issued Emiri Decree No. (1) on the reorganization of the DED in Ajman to achieve the emirate’s sustainable economic development as well as create a fair investment landscape and consumer environment to attract national and foreign investments. The reorganization also sought to provide adequate information and data on the economic activities and investment opportunities in the emirate.

2015, Amiri decree No. (1) of 2015 was issued to upgrade the mechanisms of economic planning in line with the rapid changes of the 21st century. It sought to build an integrated, diversified, sustainable, and competitive economy capable of adopting new economic models that support the emirate’s sustainable development.

The DED – Ajman’s major role revolves around formulating general economic policies, including ‘green’ economy programs, to achieve sustainable economic development, in addition to organizing the emirate’s economic affairs and activation of the local business sector.
