The private sector in the emirate of Ajman has ranked third at the UAE level for its contributions to sustainable development projects, aligning with national priorities that harmonize with economic, environmental, social, and governance indicators, as well as the sustainable development goals. This achievement reflects the dedicated collaboration between the Ajman Government and the private sector.
This was revealed during a meeting between the Department of Economic Development in Ajman (Ajman DED) and the CSR UAE Fund “Majra,” the federal arm setting up the framework and governance for Sustainable Impact, Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the UAE, to explore avenues for enhanced cooperation between the two parties.
The meeting provided an overview of the successes and accomplishments achieved in the realms of corporate social responsibility and sustainability and its impact on improving quality of life and enhancing global competitiveness. Both parties underscored the importance of continued dialogue and partnership to achieve further progress and strengthen the private sector's role in comprehensive and sustainable development.
H.E. Abdullah Ahmed Al Hamrani, Director-General of the Ajman DED, commended the Fund's significant role in regulating the principles of corporate social responsibility and sustainable impact in the UAE, as well as in measuring, incentivizing, and rewarding corporate practices that support environmental, social, and governance principles and the sustainable development goals. Al Hamrani stated, "We strive to encourage companies, establishments, and the business sector to adopt corporate social responsibility standards within their operations and activities and to enhance their role and participation, directing their contributions towards community development projects that align with national priorities, thereby driving economic growth and fostering sustainability."
Al Hamrani also highlighted the numerous programs and initiatives implemented by the DED in the field of corporate social responsibility, stating, "We integrate corporate social responsibility into our practices and consider it a way of life. Our goal is to achieve the well-being and quality of life for the community in all the services and activities we undertake, including consumer protection services and programs, free feasibility studies for all nationalities, the free owned property certificates, summer programs for various segments of society, our enhancement and entrepreneurship programs that support small and medium-sized enterprises, and the agenda of initiatives and events in the Year of Sustainability."
Sarah Shaw, Director-General of the CSR UAE Fund “MAJRA,” said, "Ajman's distinguished ranking in sustainable impact at the UAE level reflects the significant momentum of corporate social responsibility initiatives in the emirate and the growing contributions of the private sector in achieving the sustainable development goals. This success is primarily attributed to the effective partnership between the public and private sectors in implementing impactful programs and projects, and the increasing awareness of the need to adopt governance standards and responsible corporate practices, thereby enhancing community well-being and the competitiveness of the business environment in the Emirate. We at “MAJRA” are proud of our contribution to motivating companies to adopt sustainable methodologies and environmental, social, and governance principles, and to celebrate their success stories in this regard through various initiatives, most notably the 'The Impact Seal.' It is worth noting that the DED's role in promoting corporate social responsibility disclosure by private companies in Ajman will contribute to providing supportive services and capabilities for the national corporate social responsibility system provided by the Fund. We also look forward to developing our cooperation with the Ajman DED and various government and private sector institutions in the emirate of Ajman, which will positively impact the journey towards sustainable development."
